Chan Chan (in Quingnam: Chan-Chan, lit. ‘Shining Sun’) is a pre-Columbian adobe city, built on the north coast of Peru by the Chimú. It is the largest adobe city in America and the world.
Huaca de la Luna and Chan Chan from Trujillo
Our services begin when you pick up from your hotel in the city center at 10:40 am. We will leave for the Moche countryside to start the excursion in the Huacas del Sol and La Luna. We will arrive at the Huacas de Moche Museum where we will appreciate the archaeological remains extracted from the Huaca de Luna exhibited in three rooms; that allow to know about the moches, their city, the cult of power and the god of the mountain Aia Paec through the transmission of videos about the Moche iconography and architecture. In addition to the exhibition of unique ceramics for their beauty and symbolism, among which the Warrior Duck, the blind Priest and pieces such as the Feline stand out. In this way, visitors are prepared for the tour in Huaca de La Luna which is a religious architectural complex elaborated with adobe where the image of their deity Aia Paec is reflected in high relief, as well as iconography of warriors, dancers, spiders and snakes. From the highest level of the Huaca de la Luna you can see the Huaca del Sol 43 m high, used for administrative purposes that is under investigation.
Later there will be a time to visit the Artisan Ceramics Workshop located in the tourist resort of Huaca del Sol y la Luna where you can buy handicrafts. Return to the city of Trujillo 2:00 pm.
we will pick you up, from your hotel in the city center. There will be a visit to Huaca Arco Iris, also known as the Huaca del Dragon; dedicated to the Rainbow as a symbol of fertility. Later we will go to the Chan Chan Site Museum, where ceramics, textiles, metal works and construction materials are exhibited. In the second room the pre-Hispanic cultural development of the region is observed and finally the room where the Chimú story is narrated through projections of lights and sound effects is visited. We will continue with the visit to the Nikan Palace or former Tschudi Palace that is part of the Citadel of Chan – Chan declared as Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1986 considered as the largest mud city in the world to end the tour you will visit the Huanchaco Spa (20 min.) Where you can buy handicrafts, walk along the pier and meet the famous totora (reeds) horses by the legend of Takaynamo. Return to the city of Trujillo 6:00 pm
